Case Study – Restoration of a vintage Camel saddle stool
It only takes a few steps to turn your idea into a reality…
Bespoke leather upholstery for demanding individualists
One of our local customers has brought us a unique piece of furniture, a vintage Egiptian style saddle stool, which has been in his family for over five decades. A wooden structure was in a great, solid condition, with a charming patina on it. However, a top leather cushion has seen better days. The leather was in a bad state and needed to be replaced.

The customer has had a personal attachment to this stool, and it was very important for us to make sure, that we replicate a cushion in as great details as possible.

For this project, the customer has chosen a soft Italian leather, with a smooth texture, which has matched a colour of the original piece very well. He also asked us to make a custom embroidery of the camel on the top part of the cushion. A design had to be close to the shape of a camel visible on one of the wooden legs.
Step 1
We set of to work and first task was to carefully unstitch the leather pieces of the old cover to create a pattern. We have decided to keep and re-use an old hay filling of the cushion, to keep as much of the original, unique feel as we could. It was closed off and secured in a custom made fabric bag.
Step 2
After new leather pieces were cut, it was time to make a bespoke embroidery of a Camel. The customer has requested that embroidery in contrast, black stitching.
Step 3
Once the top part came back from embroidery station, it was time to sew it together. The bottom of the cushion was originally fitted with small eyelets and closed with a leather strap. We have replicated this feature as well.
Step 4
We set of to work and first task was to carefully unstitch the leather pieces of the old cover to create a pattern. We have decided to keep and re-use an old hay filling of the cushion, to keep as much of the original, unique feel as we could. It was closed off and secured in a custom made fabric bag.

“Great to stay on top of the process. Highly recommended!”
